0:00 welcome everybody to catfish weekly
0:04 presented a whisker where para long with
0:05 Doc like I’m while Stokes and we’re
0:08 going to talk tonight about getting
0:10 prepared for the upcoming season but
0:13 before we get into that a i’d like to
0:17 mention everybody that Chuck is not
0:19 going to be with us again tonight he is
0:21his father’s not doing too well and he’s
0:24 gonna spend the time with him and I
0:26 think that’s what he should be doing
0:27 family has to come first before this
0:30 show or any tournament or efficient
0:33 anything else and I’m glad that that
0:35 he’s taking care of that is exactly what
0:37 they should be doing
0:39 yeah how’s it going tonight doc it’s
0:42 cold and raining here in Ohio
0:45 well it’s 57 degrees here in Missouri so
0:51 I’m not gonna complain i hope that
0:52 pushes over your way a little bit so you
0:55 get to enjoy it we supposed to get rain
0:56 the last couple days and we’ve had a
0:58 couple sprinkles but that’s been about
0:59 it been pretty nice
1:01 yeah it’s it’s been real windy real
1:05 windy a never stop on the way home from
1:08 work tonight it was when the wind was
1:11 blowing so hard it was lifted no
1:12 windshield wipers off of the truck
1:15 nice yeah but about the 30 35
1:19 mile-an-hour winds coming down south
1:22 haha well yeah the south winds supposed
1:26 to be a one-win but it’s cold and don’t
1:29 make no difference a couple nights ago
1:30 it was pretty chilly here was down the
1:32 twenties and I I every time that happens
1:35 I get to thinking about Chuck because I
1:37 know he’s down there complain about it
1:40
being cold before you 50 degrees you
1:42
know and it is all bundled up like a
1:45
total all looking for a place to present
1:47
in the winter but you know when when we
1:50
get called we get cold and that was one
1:52
of the reasons that I thought tonight we
1:55
ought to talk about the things it that
1:57
we do to prepare for upcoming seasons
1:59
and it’s not that you and I either one
2:02
don’t fish throughout the winter but
2:05
there’s things that you can do on days
2:07
that you can’t go fish to to get ready
2:09
for the upcoming season and
2:12
right you know it now is the time to be
2:14
doing it if it’s raining and i know you
2:17
just build a new garage to keep your
2:18
boat and stuff in and you can do a lot
2:20
of things in there when you’re not and
2:22
and this is the time to do all that
2:24
stuff and then without rolls around
2:26
you’re ready to take off and go to
2:28
wherever it is then you’re ready to go
2:30
yeah and actually since I do have my bar
2:34
now the very first thing you know attack
2:36
is I go to the trailer start checking
2:41
things on the trailer uh you know I did
2:44
I pull the wheels look for any dry rot
2:48
on the tires look at the tread then i go
2:52
to the bearings and check the bearing
2:54
generally i pull the bearing but Daniel
2:57
taught me that a few things about the
2:59
trailer because he’s a he drives a semi
3:03
and things that I probably have never
3:07
checked he has me now checking in it and
3:10
that’s the springs check the springs
3:14
make sure that those clips are in place
3:16
on where the springs are bolded there is
3:22
a plastic bushing that that hardened
3:25
steel bolt goes through
3:28
yeah those have a tendency of wearing
3:30
down
3:31
I know last year when we went through it
3:33
we pulled the one a leaf-spring off and
3:37
the boat was like war almost in half so
3:41
that that came as a real shock to me
3:43
when I saw that so I was glad that you
3:46
know he showed me something right there
3:48
and I mean it you know we just went
3:51
through the whole trailer you know you
3:52
look at that sold all kinds of different
3:55
stuff and right now I got a little bit
3:59
of a leak on my CR can i have not been
4:02
able to track that rascal down bilge
4:05
pump keeps up with a fine but you know
4:08
just I don’t know I’ve never had a leak
4:09
on this thing and now I’ve got a little
4:11
bit bleak and have it for years it out
4:13
here right
4:15
well the number one thing on my list of
4:16
stuff to talk about tonight
4:19
the number one thing that I want to do
4:21
every winner and a lot of times before
4:24
travel long distances
4:26
stuff a lot about twice a year is
4:29
repacked the wheel bearings on a boat
4:31
now that being said a lot of these new
4:33
boat trailers don’t have packable wheel
4:35
bearings they have stuff to run a wall
4:37
or something and that you don’t have to
4:39
worry about but still need to make sure
4:40
that their full and and everything is
4:42
there are implicated one of the easiest
4:43
ways to do that is just to take a jack
4:46
and raise that up one side of your boat
4:48
trailer a time to spin the wheel funeral
4:51
yeah if you haven’t always you got a
4:53
problem you got to take care of that
4:55
whether it’s agreeable type or not and
4:57
guys think that just because there’s a
4:58
greaser on out there they can they can
5:01
pump them full of recent packs and
5:02
wheelbarrows fellows it does not pack
5:04
the wheel bearings it puts grease around
5:06
not in it fills up the void in between
5:10
the bearings in the axial and different
5:12
things but it’s not the same as pulling
5:14
them bearings out and packing now on my
5:17
boat trailer
5:18
I don’t pack wheel bearings by hand
5:20
anymore i used to do that all the time
5:22
but i have a tool that you set to greet
5:25
with thing into you put advice or you
5:27
just step on it and it forces that
5:29
grease up to that bearing it and I’ve
5:31
packed your bearings since I was a kid
5:33
before they had tools like this and you
5:36
can’t hand pack them as well as the
5:38
stuff put it in there I promise you I
5:39
was inaudible business for 30 years and
5:42
and and i’m telling you you cannot do it
5:45
as well as that machine i’ll put them in
5:47
there and it’s very simple easy use but
5:49
that’s the number one thing that needs
5:52
to be done if you have packed wheel
5:55
bearings every year before spring rolls
5:57
around was once you start fishing for
5:59
you know about that stuff next thing you
6:00
know you’re sitting on the side of the
6:02
road wondering how you’re going to get
6:03
your butt back home and always all it
6:06
takes is a crack that’s all it takes
6:09
you know that’s right that bearing will
6:11
get hot the other thing I’m always doing
6:13
is you know our shoot those tubs with an
6:17
infrared 10s right and you know that
6:22
you’ve got that range
6:24
anytime you start approaching a hundred
6:26
and fifty you gotta you gotta problem on
6:28
your hands
6:29
that’s right you have enough fair enough
6:31
research something right and granted the
6:34
if you got brakes like i have on mind
6:37
those run a little bit harder you know
6:40
it if you’ve been on the brakes a little
6:42
bit they will run a little bit harder
6:44
but I know on my tip gun I’ve got a
6:48
sticker on there says maximum a hundred
6:51
86 degrees if I start seeing a matter of
6:54
hundred fifty i get a little worried
6:56
actually I started looking at him but
6:58
you know when it’s hot out yes they will
7:01
run a little bit warmer right on a
7:04
normal basis they should be right around
7:06
under a hundred degrees
7:08
thank you could run right you know and
7:12
if you don’t have one of those things
7:13
just everytime you every time I stop I
7:15
go lay my hand on each wheel India if if
7:18
that hubs warm i’m looking for the cause
7:21
of it very rarely have I ever had to
7:24
worry about that but i know tons and
7:27
tons of guys that have had problems with
7:29
wheel bearings and stuff on the side of
7:31
the road and it’s either in the middle
7:32
of the night or someplace where there’s
7:34
no help around and nobody carry spare
7:37
bearings and stuff
7:38
the other thing with that is always
7:41
replace the seal don’t try to reuse that
7:44
seal for three or four bucks just put a
7:47
new one in it called today because if it
7:49
gets bent were restored in any way first
7:52
time you back into the water you got are
7:54
you got water coming in around there and
7:56
all your grease is gone and it’s not
7:58
very long you will bear your shot
8:00
yep and it doesn’t you know i can say
8:06
3-4 hours 44 seal is justin it’s cheap
8:09
insurance policy is just dissipates
8:14
common sense to me to do that and while
8:16
you’re at it just started the front of
8:17
that trailer and go to the back and if
8:19
you have the water that’s right if you
8:21
got a light bulb it’s not working or
8:23
wire thats hanging down if there’s a
8:25
wire hanging down it’s probably been
8:26
pulled by something so you need to
8:28
either tie it back up like it was and
8:30
make sure that it’s not rubbed on
8:32
anything and a check everything
8:36
everything that is on it that your tires
8:38
is another very important thing look at
8:41
them see if they’re dry rodded see if
8:43
their war
8:43
a man I’m telling you it sucks to be on
8:46
the side of the road had to change a
8:48
flat tire on a boat I mean if all they
8:50
don’t fall down to the concert they
8:52
asked for the concrete and you’re doing
8:54
they’re trying to get it jacked up and
8:56
we’ve got a hydraulic jacks and stuff we
8:58
keep in the truck with us but it’s
9:00
dissipating the ass that’s all there is
9:02
to it
9:03
if you’re in if you’re in a parking lot
9:04
it’s not so bad you got plenty of room
9:07
you don’t have vehicles zoom and buy it
9:09
but man when you are out there on the
9:12
interstate name trucks go by and they
9:14
pick up that little gravel they just
9:16
pepper you and it stings though he burns
9:20
yeah you know I we always try to keep a
9:23
good tires and stuff on ours and we come
9:27
back from cats incredible few years ago
9:31
and we got otoño a third of the way
9:34
home and blow to tire we stayed all
9:36
night and blow too tired had to leave
9:39
the boat sitting on the side there and
9:40
it wasn’t the fact that we could a
9:45
repair the change the tire the spare
9:49
tire took a was mounted on inside the
9:52
trailer took a different size socket
9:54
than the tire on the train
9:57
oh yeah and there I was couldn’t get the
10:00
spare off to put it on and these tires
10:03
look nearly new
10:05
uh in fact the spare actually had the
10:08
bluing still over the white lettering on
10:10
it from when it was new but they were
10:12
told they just had not had a miles on
10:15
there was a lot of tread left on but it
10:17
blows one of them up and I’m loaded all
10:20
the stuff that I was worried about
10:21
people take him in the back of the truck
10:23
on side of the road we took the tire
10:25
offload set on a jacket as bad as I
10:27
hated to and we have to go find a guy
10:29
that could change it and ended up just
10:31
put two new tires on again I’m telling
10:33
you when you’re standing out on the side
10:35
of the road them guys know you’re
10:36
standing on the side of the road you
10:38
know there’s no discounts
10:39
I mean it’s a full till you pay the bill
10:42
and done with it and now I’m not sorry
10:45
that we put new tires on it but I know I
10:47
could probably say twenty-five or thirty
10:49
dollars entire if i had to buy them out
10:52
on the road and everybody doesn’t have
10:54
the exact tire so if you thinking just
10:56
pulling somewhere
10:57
get a tire maybe they’ll have the size
10:59
tire you have maybe they won’t you know
11:01
it’s not a guaranteed thing for anybody
11:04
but it is just you know that’s the time
11:07
to do it is is and like I say we fish
11:10
all year round i know you guys fishing
11:12
not use out over the weekend and yeah
11:14
with baked and I’m glad that you got to
11:16
take a break out that’s awesome i’m sure
11:18
you have like yeah that’s left are a few
11:22
fish not that’s good and I don’t you
11:26
even even know that rocky fork and just
11:28
a short jaunt down the road you know I
11:32
still you know when i pulled into the
11:34
thing very first thing I did is I got
11:36
out I went overnight i started looking
11:38
at my hubs stuff like act so you know
11:41
I’ve had problems with him going down
11:44
the road now that I’ve changed breaks
11:46
out on it i I’ve had a whole lot less
11:49
issues with this trailer but see arc is
11:52
known for throwing cheek carriers
11:55
underneath their boats and and I got one
11:57
of but I i don’t have as much problem
12:00
with mine is other people I know and
12:03
actually i think the manufacturer you
12:06
need to put some of the best trailers
12:09
under a boat because that’s the thing
12:11
that takes the beat and going down the
12:13
road not about being in the water inside
12:15
turn the trailer and tires with the
12:19
numerous chuckles that you’re on the
12:21
roadways and debris that gets strong on
12:25
the road just it was horrible it is is
12:30
it’s got off one and you you pop over
12:33
some of these heels you don’t know
12:34
what’s on the other side of maybe get
12:36
slowed down maybe you don’t of course I
12:37
don’t go as fast as I used to but I’m
12:40
still running at least the speed limit
12:42
everywhere we go and sometimes you can
12:45
get stopping and if the brakes on your
12:47
trailer bad that just takes them you
12:50
know they’re not that expensive breaks
12:51
makes them cost that much and if you got
12:53
any kind of mechanical capability at all
12:55
you can change them they’re they’re not
12:57
a big deal if you don’t feel comfortable
12:58
doing it take us someplace and get it
13:00
done it will be any more to get breaks
13:02
put on your tray we’re going to cost you
13:04
put on front of your car and it’s just
13:07
it’s just a good policy
13:09
well now it’s almost as
13:11
just go ahead and buy the whole unit
13:13
already preassembled and just hook it
13:15
onto your axles that’s what i do on mine
13:18
you know if I have really go back
13:20
yeah it’s almost just as cheap wow
13:23
that’s good
13:24
well as a lot of things like that prices
13:27
are coming down on a lot of things
13:28
everybody’s assembly they get to sell
13:30
more of it and for a few dollars more
13:32
everything’s brand-new is to just break
13:34
so i can understand where that would be
13:36
a really good deal now rob ellis just
13:40
posted here on YouTube does anyone
13:43
attempt to check alignment in the
13:44
offseason I just ordered new tires as we
13:47
can actually getting strange outside
13:50
shoulder we’re only on one side now I’ve
13:54
never check the alignment on my tech
13:56
traitor but you know I’m always checking
13:58
air pressures and stuff like that
14:00
because I’m to the point where i can a
14:03
lot of times I can’t remember you know
14:05
how much error my supposed to have so
14:06
I’ve got stickers on my trailer that
14:09
says 50 psi so I like I know you know
14:13
I’m supposed to have 50 psi in there but
14:15
I always check my tires before I ever
14:19
pull out it including the spare and a
14:21
lot of people forget about that spare
14:23
well you know I’ve never check the
14:28
alignment on one but i know chris
14:30
Courtney had bought a CR few years ago
14:32
and and we come out of the tournament
14:34
st. Louis and he was sitting on the side
14:37
of the road right on the interstate and
14:39
I pulled in there to see if I can help
14:41
him and he had lost a hub and he had
14:45
told me that was a second i believe
14:47
second or third hub that it went out of
14:49
that boat trader and I told he must have
14:52
from the wear on your tires the kids out
14:54
of a live men and it wasn’t that the
14:56
axle was out of alignment one side of it
14:58
set back further than the other news
15:00
just prematurely where his tires out and
15:02
and that’s what done that and we had
15:06
some ratchet straps and we ratchet strap
15:09
his axle up because it right the hub and
15:13
fold everything back this truck and he
15:15
made it home with a one tire on one side
15:18
of the dual trailer a new wheel trailer
15:20
but
15:21
he went back in and he checked it once
15:24
you got that fixed and put it on there
15:25
and sure enough he was like a half inch
15:28
off on the front axle compared to the
15:30
back axle which were your spring lines
15:33
up and that thinks it’s over there to go
15:36
around that table like he’s talking
15:37
about he had to slide that forward and
15:41
what he got a measured from the from the
15:43
front of the tongue back to the center
15:45
of the wheel on both sides and when you
15:47
got lined up he just tightened down and
15:48
as far as i know he didn’t have any more
15:51
trouble with that but those are the kind
15:54
of things it’s that now is the time it
15:57
and could run over a curb in a parking
16:01
lot like we had tight quarters down
16:03
there at here at owensboro you can pop
16:06
over a curb like that and you can move
16:08
that a let that slide on that bed
16:11
springs and depending on how big the
16:13
hole is in in your red your top piece
16:16
where that tableau goes through a you
16:19
might change that a little bit that but
16:21
that’s it as far as changing caster and
16:23
camber I don’t know how you never do
16:25
that on one you have to take it to
16:27
somebody that’s capable of bending those
16:29
axles to line them up if that part of
16:31
its out but if they’re just
16:33
front-to-rear out of line that you can a
16:34
lot of times except yourself
16:36
yeah yeah so what are the other thing is
16:40
you know the curved check them tires
16:42
they’re notorious for building up a
16:46
blister on the side you break a belt on
16:49
him you know especially in tight
16:52
quarters like we were down there on a
16:55
monster’s you know you curb check on and
16:58
then you know just rubs outside wall and
17:01
then it pops it open
17:02
I’ve seen big not come out on the cider
17:08
yeah that’s from us that’s for my belt
17:10
being broke inside that tired if that
17:12
builds broke you’ve got you may not have
17:14
problems right there but you’re gonna
17:15
have to buy your mother’s you might as
17:17
well polling and parking lot and change
17:20
it out because it’s going to be right in
17:22
the eyes get in there will be some place
17:24
where ton of traffic or in the center
17:26
lane where you can get over the beer
17:28
something crappy happen so just take
17:30
care of you can see it and be done with
17:32
the other thing i really look at is my
17:36
change now I’ve got cables on mine I
17:40
don’t care for your tables but that’s
17:42
what it means either I I like having the
17:45
chains on their attitude their cables
17:49
I’m sure there are plenty stronger that
17:52
because they’re on the three HR bigger I
17:54
mean the whole yeah there’s a lot more
17:56
yeah but they’ve twisted up they always
17:59
got in sticking out of them i’m always
18:01
jabbing myself in the hand I think get
18:04
all sore you know man if I had a boat of
18:08
mine that had gone on there i would take
18:10
them also put chains off they’re just
18:13
they’re they’re terrible i mean i know
18:16
that’s maybe technology at its finest
18:19
but I don’t like it and I just don’t
18:22
care for it is very crappy to deal with
18:26
and and the chains work for a thousand
18:28
years with miles will keep using
18:30
something that and they don’t never free
18:32
out and get your hand that hurts but
18:34
that will give large that they’re
18:36
painful
18:37
yeah so yeah so i probably change mine
18:40
out this year I’ll probably go back two
18:41
chains on them so yep understand I
18:45
understand a lot of people like the
18:47
cables and that there’s nothing wrong
18:48
with them there i guess like they’re
18:50
very secure
18:51
yeah they just they have the downside to
18:54
him was there bending and breaking it
18:55
sooner or later even coated ones the
18:58
wires going to come through there and
19:00
then that first place you get it is in
19:01
your hand and I just I just don’t care
19:04
for that at all but i can say things get
19:08
better and newer and upgrades in that
19:11
that’s one element it just doesn’t suit
19:13
me personally but he’ll offerings don’t
19:16
suit me
19:17
but what do you do with your boat dock
19:24
as far as getting it ready for the next
19:26
year
19:27
generally i’ll go ahead and a double
19:30
check
19:31
well what I do in the wintertime is I go
19:33
ahead and pull the batteries i clean my
19:36
batteries up
19:37
just make sure that you know even though
19:40
but voters in a barn you know I still
19:43
pull the batteries
19:45
I i get the vacuum sweeper out
19:48
it’s amazing how much chad and skipjack
19:52
end up on that deck where your batter
19:55
he’s your head you know that mind is
19:58
covered but somehow it always ends up
20:00
down inside there you know it it can get
20:05
pretty nasty back there so you know I’ll
20:08
take the bet I’ll take the batteries out
20:10
at that time i’m looking at the cables
20:13
you know I’m just go over anything and
20:16
everything because you know things move
20:18
around they rub I look at the straps
20:21
that are on the batteries that hold my
20:23
battery down look at the trays make sure
20:26
there’s no cracks and as a take out the
20:29
vacuum sweeper to sweep everything out
20:32
check the bilge pump the bilge pump is
20:36
something that really overworked and
20:38
it’s one of the most when you have to
20:41
have it you want that thing working as a
20:44
particular yeah you don’t want to be
20:46
reaching over there and we got a problem
20:49
here because it you know without a bilge
20:52
pump work and votes gonna fill up pretty
20:55
quick and that’s exactly right and and
20:58
you know one of the prime example that I
21:02
can attest to is a couple three years
21:04
ago with to a tournament up in here cuz
21:07
i went to John right with us and it was
21:10
a ma I’m standing up there I see Calvin
21:13
Mars in the chatter and he’ll he’ll know
21:15
that what I’m talking about and we set
21:17
out there and like to drown the wind was
21:20
terrific we’ve got an island and and
21:23
part and the day before this tournament
21:26
we are built up with work and i went up
21:28
to see Mike being a daze marine in
21:32
burlington and he reached underneath
21:34
there nobody done but it was something
21:36
that he fixing just a couple minutes on
21:37
that built up and it was going I don’t
21:39
first tech stuff can endure whatever was
21:41
but he fixed it for me and it was a good
21:43
thing you know we set out there for
21:46
three and a half hours behind that
21:48
island with the with the cover on that
21:50
boat trying to stay dry and water
21:53
running down the cover and it was gonna
21:56
drive down the Lord John’s coat right
21:58
down to crack this but we just sit in
22:00
there and you know you didn’t dare get
22:02
out it was just that bad and it was just
22:06
miserable and you know if we hadn’t got
22:09
that bilge pump fixed we may have
22:11
something but because it runs solid the
22:14
whole time with a setting that’s our
22:16
training while and yeah that’s that’s a
22:19
lot of water but you couldn’t we was
22:21
behind this album was a little Slough oh
22:23
I don’t know it was probably a hundred
22:27
yards wide made the identifier is that
22:29
why did it might be and you can hardly
22:31
see the one side of the inside of it was
22:33
just raining that hard when you get that
22:35
much water coming down and boats collect
22:37
that water really really quick
22:38
yeah and you know the best thing to do
22:40
is get behind her when we pull back out
22:42
after the rain and slacked up the you
22:44
know is about 30 minutes after we did we
22:46
start seeing other people come out
22:47
behind the other islands of different
22:48
spots because everybody’s singing it was
22:52
really bad that they had but when we
22:55
took when we took off it was fun doing
22:57
anything but about 30 minutes after
22:58
takeoff it was miserable i mean
23:01
unbelievable but the ability to pump is
23:03
something that you have to have working
23:05
if your boat equipped with it even if
23:07
it’s not equipped with that i’d
23:08
recommend putting more minutes or not
23:09
that expensive only takes a few minutes
23:11
and you put it on a switch where you
23:13
just turn it on and off and the it’s
23:15
just a good idea to safety factor it
23:17
that the John have been most boats
23:19
yeah the other thing that check is hose
23:22
connections if they’re in the back most
23:24
of that’s where they come up and I know
23:27
on the CR before they put them on a they
23:30
do and they put silicone around and then
23:33
shove them up on the spigots then they
23:35
put hose clamps on top of it generally
23:39
even if a hose clamp breaks it will
23:41
still hold of all very close but you
23:45
know hose clamps are known to cut loose
23:48
so absolutely and and I’ll sit there and
23:51
jiggle with stuff wearing on a boat and
23:55
I’ve actually seen hose clamps actually
23:57
that was over tightened cut into a hose
24:00
and cause damage to the outer layer of
24:02
them so it only takes a few minutes to
24:05
check this stuff out and I
24:06
while you’re in there looking at that
24:08
look at all your electrical connections
24:10
on anything
24:12
yes you can get to and make sure they’re
24:14
not corroded if they are that’s the time
24:16
to get you some baking soda and a wire
24:17
brush and get it cleaned up but about
24:18
getting too
24:19
yeah yeah Jackie right next to the
24:22
connections from your I’ve got onboard
24:26
charger i make sure that those
24:28
connections are good and clean so I’m
24:30
always getting good contact when i’m
24:33
charging the batteries up you know when
24:36
you’re charging the battery they give
24:37
off that acid human if you know I oh I
24:41
opened the back into my boat when i’m
24:43
charging and make sure that those gases
24:47
get out of there
24:48
exactly so you know the old boats used
24:51
to have an intake air and an outtake
24:53
here yet and I don’t think they do that
24:56
on any of them anymore
24:57
I think he’s got a fan or something now
25:01
that they may be learned
25:03
yeah but that’s just like the that’s
25:06
just like the the gases that buildup in
25:09
your live well from the ammonia off of
25:11
those fish just don’t get it up and let
25:13
it out
25:14
it’s the same difference with that if
25:15
you’re charging up that battery they
25:17
have vents on the ends of those
25:18
batteries and that lets all that out of
25:20
there and it if you can’t escape then
25:23
it’s stuck in there and that not only is
25:26
dangerous debris this kind of a fire
25:27
hazard because if he happened to be a
25:29
smoker something open that up boom you
25:31
got you got an issue because that’s how
25:34
come batteries blow up that are
25:35
overcharged with people look bad
25:37
batteries mostly they hook up jumper
25:39
cables to the battery chargers it’s
25:41
already going and sparks was the gas
25:43
catches on fire
25:45
it’s coming out the end of those
25:46
batteries and usually himself 80 plates
25:48
and the bed the battery should have been
25:50
replaced anyhow but if not you want it
25:52
blows and you get it wiped off you you
25:55
will be replaced at that point and
25:57
abortion everything up review
26:00
yeah I worse tell me if the battery does
26:02
let go
26:04
it is going good it’s going to melt
26:06
right down through that aluminum it’s
26:07
going to cut a hole right through there
26:09
all right yeah he got a handle on it
26:12
right you gotta get a water hose on it
26:14
immediately and and just just keep
26:16
running water over water over to your
26:18
sick of running water over
26:19
then run it over a little while longer
26:21
to make sure that you got it all wore
26:23
step and a again baking soda is a really
26:27
good way to get rid of any of that stuff
26:29
that gets on metal or anything and it’ll
26:32
get all that stuff cutoff of their and
26:34
out of the way and it will help you it’s
26:36
your friend
26:37
yeah and then I I I kind of go over the
26:42
interior of my boat you know checking
26:44
the seats out that kind of stuff looking
26:48
i know on a CR you got the screws and go
26:51
down into the deck holes of decking on
26:55
sometimes those things back out or you
26:58
know there’s some of them are missing
26:59
you know they backed out and they’re
27:02
just not there so I i always keep spares
27:05
and I just kind of really go over the
27:07
boat with a fine-tooth comb checking
27:09
everything out live well up front i
27:13
carry big desiccant bags that I put in
27:17
my compartments in the wintertime so
27:20
don’t do all that moisture what moisture
27:23
gets in those cabinets generally what i
27:25
do now that I’ve got my barn sealed up I
27:29
knock on wood I haven’t had no for
27:32
little four-legged critters anywhere but
27:35
I have a tendency of opening up my
27:38
hatches just so that moisture doesn’t
27:41
get trapped down in there but when
27:44
that’s when I had my boot outside and
27:47
had it covered up it was always covered
27:49
up their little birds they always worked
27:52
her way down in inside the boat
27:55
well and my still get in there too but
27:58
there were number one problem that i
28:00
would have down here is squirrels we
28:03
have yeah
28:05
oh my god we have an abundance of things
28:07
and and they’ll get in if they’re just
28:09
like a rat or a mouse to get into
28:11
everything and eat shit update supposed
28:13
to and they did take they’ll get
28:16
underneath the hood of a car now eat all
28:18
the wiring off of it they’ll eat
28:19
anything it just I don’t think to eat it
28:22
I think they just do it uhhhh I don’t
28:24
know what the hell they do but their
28:25
mess and the plug up i’ll tell you a
28:29
quick story hear about that my buddy
28:33
Jason
28:33
Dana bottom below 10 years got
28:35
everything I know how about this but he
28:38
got that boat and all the time he had he
28:41
just couldn’t get any speed out of a
28:42
good getting speed out of it and he took
28:45
it to Illinois him buddies of his over
28:48
Springfield they changed props and they
28:50
get out on the lake and they fired up
28:51
and it just would not get the speed than
28:54
everybody else is just like that did and
28:57
I don’t have a year or two maybe three
28:59
and he gets this thing to a guy and he
29:03
tears it apart and found a mouse nest or
29:05
something in the intake of this boat
29:07
behind the air cleaner or a balance or a
29:10
squirrel or whatever was got in there
29:12
and build a nest and the reason his boat
29:15
would not run was because he couldn’t
29:17
get enough araphi there so the end
29:20
irritate so it can run
29:22
yeah and this is Sookie transit you know
29:25
if it doesn’t get enough air it just it
29:28
backs off on if your intake yeah and its
29:31
top speed on his was five to seven miles
29:33
an hour slower than anybody else with a
29:36
200 pro cabin 175 on it and he’s I mean
29:40
he was getting pretty hot about it
29:43
because he kept asking me how fast would
29:46
get it and he got me and I can’t get
29:48
mine to go that fast and he said and you
29:51
got a bigger boat than I do he said what
29:53
is going on with this thing as a man I
29:55
don’t know
29:56
yeah better than any all day and then
29:59
told me what they fail but so you know
30:02
and if they don’t just get in motor
30:04
parts and things they’ll get in they’ll
30:07
get in that where your wiring that
30:08
they’re getting bad where the batteries
30:10
after if there is a whole they can get
30:12
their nose through they can fit in
30:14
yeah they’ll just squeeze down to get in
30:17
so that’s you know this is time to go
30:18
over all that stuff and get it all
30:20
checked out and whatever you need to do
30:23
or take care of it that needs attention
30:25
just take care of it and be done with
30:28
and you can still use your boat if you
30:30
decide you want to go to like a no big
30:31
deal just take it and go on when you
30:33
come back next time you’re thinking
30:34
about it go check something else
30:36
the next thing I go and do is I look at
30:39
the trolling motor i checked my mouth
30:42
make sure my mouth are still tight
30:44
control another fascinating
30:46
you because it through the year I don’t
30:48
ever mess with it you know i’ll pull the
30:51
prop off make sure there’s no line up
30:53
underneath of it
30:55
just make sure that that shaft that
30:57
shaft at the proper attached does not
31:00
move back and forth in housing because
31:04
when it starts moving back and forth in
31:06
you got a bearing is starting to go and
31:09
it is time to you know do something
31:11
about it but right you know put that on
31:15
there and you know again just put a
31:17
little bit of grease on it on the pin on
31:19
the shear pin and stuff like that make
31:22
sure that he’ll turn nice and loose put
31:26
that rock back on look at them dead
31:29
the other thing i see a lot of people
31:30
that don’t do is I’ll have problems when
31:33
you get a plug-in or trolling motor and
31:36
a lot of times it’s you know there’s
31:38
something that’s built up over the year
31:41
some elected you know that the green
31:46
looking stuff that gets on those
31:49
connections and you know you getting you
31:52
know if you get that you gotta get
31:54
cleaned off you you can’t just keep
31:56
letting it go
31:57
no you don’t want that good contact you
32:00
you’re going to end up putting more
32:02
you’re going to use a lot of juice out
32:04
of your battery because it’s not getting
32:06
the full connection that’s exactly right
32:08
like that corrosion builds up on there
32:10
and not only does it not let everything
32:13
go through from point A to point B it
32:17
could keep it from working and your then
32:18
you know the last thing you want to do
32:20
is get out there and have to be screwed
32:22
with that thing when you can take care
32:23
of it now if you drop that trolling
32:26
motor in your not anchored you’re on a
32:27
river especially with his card and he
32:30
dropped in don’t work by the time you
32:31
figure out this grows you get taken off
32:33
and get cleaned up your Lobby a mile
32:35
down the river yeah let’s go ahead and
32:37
do all that stuff now be done with it
32:38
it’s just it’s just a good time and it’s
32:41
simple to do it’s out of the water and
32:42
she’s everything you know what
32:44
everything on boats not easy to get to
32:47
but it’ll be as easy to do out of the
32:50
water by far than it will be if it’s in
32:52
the water in your trying to get going
32:54
fishing you won’t be nearly as i write
32:57
get another thing
32:59
yes earlier was that the strap the front
33:04
tie down strap those singer notorious
33:07
for PETA you’ll get a little bit of a
33:10
rub and then it just start trickling
33:12
tour runs like a crack across set then
33:16
when you go to Titan you know you go to
33:18
crank that boat up that strap breaks or
33:22
your you’re in a world of hurt right
33:23
then and there unless you you know I
33:25
carry extra tie downs with me just you
33:29
know to have if if if I gotta hold an
33:32
axle up or something like you know you
33:34
did with chris’s you know I’d like hairy
33:37
dick the but you know that I I’ve only
33:40
broken one ty store one front-end strap
33:44
and i happen to be at the house when it
33:46
happened but I didn’t you know I didn’t
33:50
even look at it you just I seen it
33:52
frayed and when I look down benefit just
33:54
snapped when I pulled down it on it
33:56
tight right yeah well i’ll tell you want
33:59
to be things that Iran have come to
34:01
really enjoy is these a tie straps in
34:05
the back of the boat that are made it on
34:08
onto their that’s got a ratchet army yet
34:11
no luck by an old man that’s the
34:14
slickest thing that’s a great invention
34:16
they should have come out with them a
34:17
hundred years ago they’re just awesome
34:19
simple to use and last they last forever
34:24
Madeline is forever yeah you don’t have
34:27
to really tighten them and that’s where
34:28
a lot of people they crank down on them
34:31
and then it’ll wear that dog yeah that
34:35
leitner you know so you know just get
34:37
you your one good and solid that’s all
34:39
you need
34:40
but you know i got i bought my pears I
34:43
think that pair that I’ve got on the
34:45
back to my boat are about 14 years old
34:48
mm so and there’s still good shape
34:52
you know you get a little amount hook
34:53
them up and you’re done
34:56
yup I don’t think he can wear them out
34:58
i’m sure you can but not you know I’m
34:59
very impressed with a lot of this new
35:01
stuff if your lights are not working or
35:04
you’re having electrical problems with
35:06
the lights on your trailer
35:08
yeah i would hi only highly recommend I
35:13
for the rear your boat and while you’re
35:15
at it just run new wires you buy it as a
35:17
kid just running up through there tied
35:19
up really good
35:20
those LED lights draw almost zero
35:23
voltage from your vehicle that’s pulling
35:26
it they are extremely bright and they
35:29
last a long time
35:31
the you know this just that they’re not
35:34
that much more expensive anything else
35:36
and it’s a lot better product
35:38
yeah it’s not incandescent either so
35:41
it’s the heat and cold does not affect
35:44
it at all nope you’re not gonna burn
35:47
them out because the new the new lights
35:48
are are sealed up you’re not going to
35:50
drop it in water and worried about blown
35:52
1157 bout 1156 whatever it’s got because
35:56
it’s just not gonna happen and there’s
35:57
no heat water gets in there there’s no
35:59
heat to blow the bulb up and they’re
36:02
just a better product in and if you need
36:04
if you’re having problems i highly
36:06
recommend the le Yi lights are just a
36:09
better product
36:10
yeah because I i remember when i was a
36:13
troll King this past weekend and I seem
36:16
that they’ve got the leds in there
36:18
submergible and and they’re they’re not
36:22
very expensive very like twenty-five
36:24
dollars for mayor
36:25
yep and you’re done yeah you’re done but
36:29
like I say it a lot of times you can buy
36:31
it with new wire as cheap as you can by
36:33
BF the lights and just run the new wire
36:36
don’t just put the lights on and forget
36:38
about that wire put the new wire on it
36:40
the old wire lasted all them years
36:43
yeah go ahead and put new are armed and
36:45
last that much longer again are you get
36:47
these make sure your connections good
36:48
tight and on water submergible stuff and
36:53
I know that we’re kind of getting out of
36:54
line here a little bit maybe on this
36:55
dock but i soldered my connections on
36:58
anything’s gonna be in and out of water
37:00
and and either heat shrink it or I’ve
37:04
got some what they call mastic tape that
37:07
sticks to itself and you can sit in
37:10
water whatever water does not get past
37:12
it just kind of molds itself onto the
37:14
wire and itself and whatever it touches
37:16
and whimsical it’s a watertight tape uh
37:21
yeah
37:22
the other thing i use it that elixir
37:25
liquid electrical take that is black and
37:29
color it’s on a rush you put that right
37:32
there and it gives it yet
37:33
yep yeah water is is is as much as we
37:37
love water it is the most destructive
37:39
thing that you get for electrical
37:41
components especially that there is no
37:43
that’s that’s it
37:46
our quick up trailer pretty much covered
37:51
yeah yeah i think so you know oh this is
37:55
a good time the year to do any your
37:56
upgrades if you’re looking at new
37:58
electronics especially right now there’s
37:59
a lot of sales on Christmas time coming
38:01
you know rods reels a new line is
38:06
braided line and i want to tell you
38:08
something that I do a braid line last a
38:12
long time he really doesn’t go bad like
38:16
monofilament does because it doesn’t
38:18
have the stretch it and after a year or
38:20
two or so I take mine and I’ll run the
38:24
line off one real backwards onto another
38:27
real because the last half of that it
38:30
never been used probably never seen
38:31
daylight if it has it’s very seldom and
38:34
that way you can use your braided line
38:36
and get two reels Abbott for the price
38:39
one and some of its missing off of that
38:41
you sure we have a real that takes less
38:44
line and then another one and run it up
38:47
on there and use the back efforts you
38:49
anyway if you do it every year you get
38:51
two years or use out of one filling of
38:53
line and it is just something that I do
38:56
and I’m not being choosy about it just
38:58
makes sense to me to get all the use of
39:00
something you could get yeah yeah making
39:04
stinkers is another thing this is a good
39:06
time here
39:06
those who wants to be out there making
39:07
seekers over that hot lid when it’s a
39:10
hundred degrees outside when you can do
39:12
it now when it’s 40 and 50 and very
39:13
comfortable outside and and get get all
39:17
your stickers made for next year and if
39:19
you high up any rigs if he tie up any
39:23
any rigs you can tie them up and get
39:26
them ready to go and I’m gonna share
39:27
something with you guys I know
39:28
everybody’s got their own way of keeping
39:30
tied up rigs I think you’ve seen this we
39:35
fished together doctor but this is an
39:37
old bastard
39:38
pro warm bag and it’s made with leaves
39:41
in it where you can put bait up in it
39:45
and store and everybody tells me all you
39:49
can’t do that with a with tied up rigs
39:52
because they get out of hand you’re
39:54
going to get all tangled up
39:55
well except these baggies right here our
40:01
snack bag easy to bomb at walmart any
40:04
grocery store they’re very thin they
40:07
don’t take up much space and as you can
40:09
see i have a rig tied up in this one
40:10
right here and I know there’s companies
40:12
that make specialty stuff for this but
40:14
I’ve been doing this a long time and i
40:16
have no reason to change what I’m doing
40:18
because it works you tie up your rig you
40:21
can see that’s just a one hook with a
40:23
20-point eagleclaw honor three-foot line
40:26
and you set that baby down inside there
40:29
and you zip lock that snack bag and I
40:33
can put 10 or 12 of those in each one of
40:37
these and not have too many in each leaf
40:41
and you can have all them tied up that
40:44
you walk they just fit right down in
40:46
there and then you can zip them up
40:48
iight I up channel cat rigs I child a 8
40:53
and 10 on circle hooks 2021 calls and
40:57
197 equals and I those up and put in
41:02
that bag and then I’ll tie up my rigs
41:05
for my bump and rod which it we use a
41:08
comma got two big river hooks nine and
41:13
ten off or bumping don’t use a circle
41:16
hook when I’m pumping I can’t lay off us
41:17
emails will have a good it’s going to do
41:19
that and these guys you know it’s all
41:22
one thin wire hooks crew that I want
41:24
something going to be there I want a
41:26
heavy wire hook and when I lay it on him
41:28
I want to pull his teeth out or break
41:30
something
41:30
and yet we’re not breaking nothing and i
41:33
found one had teeth that I can count on
41:35
I got the hook in so when you’re bumping
41:38
they’re trying to take that rot away
41:40
from you being away from from them so
41:45
you need to win you need to have the
41:47
best stuff you can get that’s why use
41:48
those specifics but
41:50
that works for me it’s just something
41:54
it’s easy and quick and you can have
41:55
that bag don’t take up no space you can
41:58
have any kind of rat a rig that you want
42:00
tied up in there I don’t put sinkers and
42:02
leaders a swivels and stuff on my do
42:05
that in a little plastic box but it
42:08
works for me and if that helped me Bobby
42:10
that’d be great
42:12
uh but that’s the stuff that I get ready
42:15
for 40 for fishing for the for next year
42:20
yeah the other thing is tournament
42:32
schedules have been working on
42:36
tournament schedules right now uh for
42:40
next year we’ve been working on him for
42:42
probably two months and very few people
42:45
have come out with the with their
42:48
schedules yet I know alex has been put
42:50
up a lot of the child that’s coming up
42:52
for next year for twist get outdoors and
42:54
we fish a lot of the Germans we didn’t
42:56
fish all level master beneficiary of a
42:59
percentage of them and he’s got the
43:01
Columbia bottoms one in the brunswick
43:02
tournament that he’s doing this year and
43:04
a canton the no I don’t think you got
43:08
the jack-and-jill term it out yet but he
43:10
got the Burlington tournament up i think
43:14
the Columbia bottoms in st. Louis you
43:16
know and where we got a calendar and we
43:18
write all these dates down and it’s like
43:21
the counter i use for guests on the show
43:23
you don’t next week I’m thinking about
43:25
it i’ll just go ahead with that before i
43:28
forget it will have Lori dharshan and
43:31
Heather Halverson it’s a mother-daughter
43:34
ladies catfishing team from up north
43:36
bank Wisconsin I hope I’m right about
43:39
that but they’re supposed to be on the
43:41
show with this next on the ice so that
43:42
would be a lot of fun but you know
43:45
that’s that’s the kind of things it that
43:47
we’re doing right now where were you
43:48
know course you got you know where
43:50
you’re going to go to Marshall Ohio you
43:53
know you’re gonna go to Mississippi
43:54
River Monsters just you know already
43:56
nothing was locked in
43:58
yeah where you know you’re going to go
43:59
to those it is you’re just gonna go to
44:01
those and now we’re looking at several
44:03
political balance tournaments and of
44:06
course most of the touristic at
44:07
tournaments and uh you know and as
44:11
thanks pop up what we’ll be talking
44:13
about some other stuff and and and
44:16
different tournaments it’s coming along
44:19
i know there’s a there was a lot of talk
44:21
about a couple tournament series to come
44:23
up with elite series or higher output
44:25
pay series and i can’t find out any
44:28
information about him so I’m just gonna
44:30
go ahead and bring up
44:31
yeah what I had already planned on doing
44:33
I’m gonna go ahead and do and and get
44:37
ready and and you know what they happen
44:39
to have them and that’s fine if they
44:41
don’t think they’re not prepared you
44:43
know a few weeks ago doctors talking
44:45
about buying all them come out of a
44:48
small channel cat of floats at walmart
44:54
yeah like this it
44:57
yeah yeah that’ll stop very many of them
45:00
so when you’re in there I got the call
45:02
you
45:03
yeah grab them all that’s exactly right
45:06
but yeah you know I don’t know what if
45:08
you’re just gonna fish local tournaments
45:10
besides the two three big ones or what
45:12
you had but i’m sure you’re already
45:14
working on your schedule for next year
45:16
even though the dates are not out on a
45:17
lot of right yeah could I you know a lot
45:20
of it is affected by my work you know my
45:23
school schedule is pretty much locked in
45:26
on my work but like they threw me a
45:28
curveball this year where they changed
45:30
me completely over which really messed
45:32
up my fishing for for almost three
45:35
months so right yeah they just kinda
45:39
screwed everything with me on that but
45:42
you know it is what it is i got it i
45:44
have to continue to work at least until
45:47
I retire so yeah that’s exactly right
45:51
and you know
45:53
cabela’s has a bunch of their
45:55
tournaments dates out for next year and
45:57
i know they don’t have near all of them
45:59
out but they do have some of them out
46:01
and one of the tournaments that I really
46:04
really would like to try as a walk and
46:06
he turned down talking Texas I I don’t
46:09
know what it is about that place that’s
46:11
a big maybe it’s just fact that they
46:13
have big fish down Rob will go
46:15
but the other thing is it’ll be warm
46:19
down there he put it is that what I mean
46:24
is it is it in january-february or no I
46:29
think it’s in February or marks
46:31
everywhere think but he could be wrong
46:33
but I had looked at the other day for my
46:35
memory
46:36
it’s not what it used to be in this and
46:38
you know it slips a little bit but
46:39
there’s something about the warm weather
46:42
Texas catfishing just seems like a good
46:44
combination i know just to cook in the
46:47
the girl off boys and a bunch of them
46:49
but guys been going down there for the
46:50
last 23 years they’ve been kicking butt
46:53
and taking names so uh you know i’m i’m
46:57
excited about that i like to go down
46:58
there and jump on that and see if
47:00
there’s something we could do with that
47:01
and like I say least we probably could
47:04
you have to go down to warm up a little
47:06
bit the right so one of the things that
47:11
I wanted to talk about as far as
47:13
wintertime stuff is this is a good time
47:15
to test out new stuff if you want to
47:18
test out new fishing line if you don’t
47:21
use braid or a if you don’t if you want
47:26
to try a different leader material if
47:28
you want to try to make this a great
47:29
time of the year to try them because the
47:32
fish are not quite as active even the
47:34
Blues in the channel cat they’re not is
47:35
on fire and aggressive as they are a lot
47:38
of times and in the summer and spring
47:41
and fallen and it’d be a great time to
47:44
try out some of that stuff i get hooks
47:47
and lines and stuff and crap sent to me
47:49
all the time and some of that I tried
47:51
some of it I send back and somebody
47:53
stole the trash but if you want to try
47:56
out stuff this is a good time to do it
47:58
and see if it works to wait to the last
48:00
minute you’re on your way to two
48:02
monsters on the Ohio and get halfway the
48:05
energy me and I gotta try this stuff at
48:06
well if it don’t work you gonna be hard
48:09
group so no wonder times a great time to
48:12
do that and like I say I learned my
48:15
lesson with those thin wire books i
48:17
don’t use them i want something
48:18
disgusting some balls to it thats why u
48:21
zu call besides that they are
48:23
american-made and I really do like that
48:25
yeah
48:26
the other thing that I do
48:28
I know is I start caring reals down i
48:31
care of my reals apart and i go over
48:35
more than fine toothcomb clean them all
48:38
up you know I i enjoy doing that kind of
48:42
stuff now studies hitters a lot of it
48:44
cbt parts in there so you gotta be real
48:47
careful and that’s more or less that’s
48:49
why I stick with abu garcia because I
48:52
know I know how the terror mall down and
48:54
how to work on all so yeah you know yeah
48:58
I take him apart and it’s amazing you
49:01
know even though they don’t get dumped
49:03
in the water and stuff but somehow that
49:06
grease does come out of them
49:08
yeah you know so I and dirt and dust and
49:12
stuff road grime on him and it gets up
49:15
in there and it will choose that Paul
49:17
out and it will choose that screw that
49:19
runs that Paul on it and you know
49:21
generally screw is it so bad but the
49:24
paul just seems to take a pretty good
49:26
beat over the years right open a little
49:30
help once in awhile but they didn’t it’s
49:33
a good time in the wintertime is if
49:35
you’re capable of doing realize it’s a
49:37
good time to take apart all them up and
49:39
clean them up like you say it’s amazing
49:41
how that dirty stuff can get in there
49:43
but it does get in there and I think a
49:45
lot of it is is traveling back and forth
49:48
and going to boat ramp easier on gravel
49:50
roads and stuff like that
49:52
yeah I think it just happens you know if
49:54
you don’t have it put in a a run-blocker
49:57
wood which is like what your boat is
49:59
mine doesn’t have a rod Locker on it so
50:02
you know that either i put the poles in
50:04
the boat or I put him in the back of the
50:06
truck much rather have been boat in the
50:09
truck
50:10
we just got some i have been busy and I
50:13
haven’t had a chance to check all this
50:15
stuff but a Jason Malone agrees with us
50:18
for solid and all of the thing and and
50:21
he says watch the snowflakes landed in
50:23
your meltin pot I can just imagine that
50:26
he’s a no flakes in that hot lady and
50:29
yeah
50:29
explode Jerry dealer says that cabela’s
50:34
on to walk me is usually the first
50:35
weekend in march yeah I got a thing for
50:39
Johnny awards saying march forth
50:42
yup that’s awesome jason says to use
50:46
like a mcdonalds train when you working
50:48
on your your reels that way anything
50:50
small parts that jump out for you ready
50:52
for him to they’ll be on that tray you
50:54
can find a pick them up that’s a great
50:55
idea chasing yeah that is I always have
50:59
mine on towel and I always have a white
51:02
towel but yeah that’s a good idea it
51:04
would be like i did have forgotten one
51:06
tour part over here and I’ve got 3 i’m
51:08
gonna send to a guide to get to get
51:10
worked on and the I took one part now I
51:15
got parks and I can’t figure out where
51:17
they go so I’m just gonna mop stand up
51:19
to him I was supposed to in a long time
51:20
we just haven’t been able to get around
51:21
to get you know s that’s the easiest way
51:25
for me if if I got spare parts they go
51:27
somewhere and if I can’t figure it out
51:30
then I’ll send somebody that can knows
51:32
where they’re going to go get it fixed
51:33
right and be done with it because I want
51:36
my stuff to work if it breaks I want to
51:38
be break because the fish was too big
51:40
for the whatever i’m using I don’t want
51:42
break because I’m neglected to take care
51:44
of it right
51:45
well I had a one guy asked me is why do
51:48
you have your reels number and I said
51:51
you know I’ve got I’ve got stickers on
51:54
the side of all my reals one through I
51:57
don’t know what I got 22 something like
51:59
that and if i see i have a problem with
52:01
a real you know I’ve got my phone and i
52:05
did i can write notes down and if I’m
52:07
having a problem with the real i look at
52:10
the number i write that number down and
52:12
i know i need to work on that rock on
52:14
that real that’s all I Cindy told me
52:18
that note section on the phone was only
52:20
for grocery list
52:21
he had no effect
52:26
mine’s got fishing notes all over but if
52:30
I see somebody doing something I take a
52:32
picture and then I think it you know if
52:35
I see a real certain rig doesn’t mean
52:38
that that’s a nice setup i’ll take a
52:40
picture of it and then i can just whip
52:42
at that little peon and start
52:43
write notes on right on that picture
52:45
right there that’s pretty cool Jerry
52:48
says that’s a great idea on number of
52:49
your reels I don’t number are reals but
52:51
as you know from fishing with us we
52:53
number our rod holders guess yeah you
52:56
know when when when we’re setting the
52:59
boat we’re turning around nearly always
53:03
fishing out the back to the boat that
53:04
started with catfish is supposed to be
53:06
far as I’m concerned but the one on the
53:09
far left is number one number two number
53:10
three number for all the way around the
53:12
six so if I’m doing something and I got
53:14
a rod going down and Cindy can get this
53:16
year’s holidays are never on a witch rod
53:18
it is and I don’t directly to that rod
53:21
whether it be two or three or five or
53:23
whatever it is and it’s the same way if
53:26
i’m up the front of the boat and I’m
53:27
messing with the trolling motor or if
53:29
I’m restring and a ring on it broke off
53:32
rod or whatever and I have to look up
53:34
and meet or whatever it is she’s doing
53:37
you don’t see it and I just holler at
53:39
that number she knows exactly what Rob
53:40
to go to and pick it up
53:42
so we’ve been doing that for several
53:45
years and it works for us it may not
53:49
work for anybody else but right yeah
53:50
there’s all kinds of little different
53:52
tricks everybody various but but that
53:54
does work very well for us and and it
53:57
just you just go on
54:00
jason says not go ahead huh he chases
54:04
him and he’s number the rod holders to
54:06
do so and I just thought maybe it’s
54:08
cause was getting older but you know
54:10
he’s in Jason and not that far behind us
54:12
yeah I remember standing on Ken Lewis
54:15
his boat big sticker 1234 every rod
54:20
holder to win across the back and one
54:22
night the one year I fished with women a
54:24
big LZ on the Mississippi River that’s
54:27
what they were doing they were calling
54:29
out you know Rob number three down you
54:32
know exactly me is pretty slick now it
54:36
would do that one more fun fishing or
54:38
four pre-fishing it’s not just for
54:40
tournament day is do it every time you
54:42
go out its automatic
54:44
yeah yeah you know if if you just wait
54:46
for tournament day you might not
54:48
remember which ones three or four if
54:50
one’s out of the
54:51
Ron holder something we do it every time
54:53
we go out and that way like i say when
54:56
tournament day comes along it’s just
54:58
automatic you know which router division
55:00
and it just happens i just something
55:02
that works for us and and there’s a lot
55:04
of little things like that that now is a
55:06
great time to be trying those things
55:08
because if if you go out fishing now
55:10
your chances are
55:11
pardon me you’re not gonna be in a
55:14
tournament situation and now’s the time
55:16
to try those little things and prepare
55:18
yourself and condition yourself for
55:20
tournament season if your tournament
55:22
fishermen if you’re not it’s still handy
55:25
if you’re fishing with somebody or
55:26
especially if you have a kid and they’re
55:29
not used to any of that stuff so case
55:31
this is number one this number to this
55:34
number three and let them get that rod
55:37
and just holler out numbers got a pitch
55:38
on 2 and and one run over and grab it
55:40
you know and then their condition for so
55:42
down the road if you are fishing a
55:45
tournament or if you are busy and you
55:47
can’t get to it then you call that
55:49
number and they just go automatically go
55:50
back and read that Rodrigo yeah well
55:53
this we can think and I were dragged
55:56
running up to planer boards and then to
56:00
that we’re running out the back dragon
56:03
had planer boards outsides and if I i
56:06
had a one-player board that got tripped
56:09
and the rod went down and then a dragon
56:11
rod went down and then thanks rod went
56:14
down we had four rods down at one time I
56:17
mean just boom and we got three of the
56:21
fish three or four the fourth one came
56:23
off
56:24
we got three or so but i’d rather see
56:28
just one rotted time go tail
56:31
yeah that’d be nice to it looks like i
56:34
need fire drill there for a while you
56:36
know he trying to grab well I’m really
56:40
glad she got you didn’t get to go out
56:42
that’s all you’re going we had a good
56:44
time you know I’m sure you did just for
56:46
everybody out there he’s doing pretty
56:48
good is real weak but he handles it real
56:51
well he’s only got that I think seven
56:54
more treatments and then they’re going
56:57
to try to build his body back up before
56:59
they do surgery on him so he’s doing
57:02
good you know we talked we
57:04
everyday we talk man that’s awesome you
57:07
don’t know you guys are great friends
57:09
and he’s such a good guy and he’s gonna
57:11
get this thing worked out he’ll be will
57:13
be seen next year there’s no doubt in my
57:15
mind
57:16
ya later in the year he’ll know we’ll
57:19
get through this
57:20
absolutely it anyway we’ll all be glad
57:22
for him when he doesn’t and we’re still
57:26
having any tournament so everybody kind
57:28
of keep that open near that that’s gonna
57:30
be a pro 15 we’re going to have a term
57:34
of the to help him out because you know
57:36
he’s got it he’s gonna have a bunch of
57:38
medical bills here coming up pretty soon
57:41
so yeah we’re just going to help amount
57:44
so i think i’ll have more gated channels
57:48
is the first year gets here I’ll start
57:50
laying out more details
57:53
good deal and then that’ll be on what
57:55
body of water dock we haven’t figured
57:57
that one out yet I cut it where it’s
58:00
more likely it’s going to be on a river
58:03
ok so well that’s just great and i wish
58:08
i was a little bit closer but you know
58:10
you just never know what will show up in
58:14
a deal like literally no no there’s
58:17
throughout the years we’ve seen a funny
58:22
accounts for guys its went on and
58:24
tournaments benefit tournaments and they
58:26
always all the cat fishermen and women
58:29
always show up to support these people
58:31
and and it’ll be a great event i’m
58:33
looking forward to seeing the outcome of
58:37
it and a you know there’s no finer
58:39
people in the world and Janet bake so I
58:41
hope that everything goes good i know
58:44
just don’t know like to say thanks got a
58:45
really good outlook about this he’s
58:47
gonna wear out will be just you know
58:48
what everything fine then you’re gonna
58:50
have to deal with the tournament’s again
58:53
yeah the one oh yeah we had a good time
58:58
as we can both enjoy the weather was
59:01
kinda cold out there and I was a little
59:03
bit worried about him but he was really
59:05
dressed up
59:07
he had more clearly enough clothes on
59:08
him for both of us to stay warm but he
59:11
state his take good war
59:13
well good that’s that makes it a lot
59:16
better and you know one of these days
59:17
I’m sure
59:18
guys get back out again and all that’s
59:19
gonna pin on this weather there were it
59:22
it’s whether it’s coming winter so it’s
59:24
you know it’s not getting better for
59:26
long but you know we really can’t
59:28
complain it’s been very mild today you
59:31
know been pretty good
59:34
well that’s all i have on stuff to get
59:36
ready on just like a safety anything you
59:38
to test out for the year then go ahead
59:40
and test that stuff out and get it ready
59:42
if you got anything else you want to go
59:45
over about on the subject
59:46
no I think we’re pretty much got you
59:49
know go over what about rod maintenance
59:53
what you know is there anything you can
59:56
do with a rod or something you know that
59:58
one of the the things that I tell people
60:00
if they want to do anything to him it is
60:02
to go over the guides and stuff and
60:04
clean them up take some dawn dishwashing
60:07
soap and a rough dish rag or something
60:10
worse call for something like that or a
60:12
nylon brush and clean them up real good
60:14
and once you get all the old blood and
60:17
guts and fish scales off of them a code
60:20
car wax is the best thing in the world
60:21
for them if you have cork grips on them
60:25
and you want to do something with those
60:27
uh you can sand them very lightly not to
60:31
distort them in any way and they make
60:34
some you 40 cork seal and I put that for
60:37
the last year 2 i’ve been putting that
60:39
on every Court grip that leaves here it
60:41
darkens the court just a little bit but
60:44
it’s an added protection to keep that
60:45
stuff from rock material away and you
60:48
can sand them down smooth again and you
60:52
can put that a you can you can put that
60:57
cork see alot of mental just soak in it
60:59
does not do any good to put more than
61:00
one more than one coat on it because the
61:04
second coat won’t sink into it over the
61:06
first one just 11 code of that and it
61:09
will preserve the life of your core
61:11
greatly and like I say every every rod
61:15
that goes out of here we put that on
61:16
every one of my buy it by the case and
61:19
you can get it on for many builders
61:22
supply you get it off ebay they got the
61:26
stuff in there and and you know just it
61:30
just makes it last
61:31
longer cork is I don’t have a lot of
61:34
people really love cork and I know you
61:36
like it doc I despised but the reason I
61:39
do is because I deal with it all the
61:40
time of chunks come out missing the and
61:43
these guys are selling these for made
61:45
rods and they’re saying I were using a
61:47
select great quarterly their wine if i
61:52
put the best cork on a rod that money
61:56
could buy the cork would cost as much as
61:59
the finish rod des korkut good quality
62:02
core is very expensive and when you’re
62:05
selling rod 470 bucks you’re not putting
62:07
19 hours with a cork on it and selling
62:10
the whole thing for 70 bucks it then
62:12
guys can talk all that bullshit they
62:13
want to do anything happen you know it’s
62:16
just not how it works but uh you know
62:18
the scales and skipjack scales and once
62:22
they’ve been baked on out in the sun is
62:23
probably the hardest thing to get off of
62:25
but I long brush or I can say a real
62:27
rough cloth of some kind and some
62:30
dishwashing soap works the very best for
62:33
me i use a lot of Turtle Wax on our
62:36
staff rain dance works really good but
62:39
i’m pretty sure any quality thing will
62:44
shine them up and make them look good
62:46
but go over the inside of them guides
62:49
with a q-tip swab and if you find any
62:55
place where that a q-tip is being framed
62:58
out from the inside of that guide
63:01
whatever is causing that will cause your
63:04
line to free it will either be
63:07
monofilament abraded doesn’t make any
63:09
difference in it maybe a groove in there
63:10
it may just be something stuck to it it
63:13
may be something been bumped into it but
63:16
if you run that around the inside of
63:17
that ring and it catches and phrase that
63:20
q-tip you need to attend to that
63:22
immediately that’s the best tip I can
63:24
give you on rod care
63:25
ok this is a very bad information
63:29
yeah well you know why don’t you gone to
63:32
clean my stuff
63:33
well you saw have my court to look again
63:36
that that’s just all from dawn so right
63:39
and i’m not sure the titty the cork you
63:41
got its got preserver on I don’t think
63:43
it does it probably
63:45
that’s because in god’s little bit right
63:47
yeah I’ve got some of them Rob got her
63:49
and I hate to say it but her 15 15 18
63:53
years old and of course it’s dark but it
63:57
there’s a there’s no chumps listen out
64:00
of it
64:00
yeah alright well I’ve got had guys that
64:03
you know they get slammed down rod
64:04
holder and a lot of times when they come
64:07
up in that Ronald really break it off
64:09
the top
64:10
let’s take a look at it when it’s that
64:12
metal on Ronald and it’s just things
64:15
that happen if the fish is hooked itself
64:17
up it wouldn’t happen and sometimes they
64:19
just get a big old fish lamb in this
64:21
match that court next to that blank and
64:24
you know things don’t happen and if you
64:27
have that happen and you want to replace
64:30
it repair it the easiest simplest way to
64:33
do it is to clean that up as smooth as
64:36
you can down to the rod break and
64:38
replace it with an ice core graph it’s
64:41
not cork but it’s easier to do and a lot
64:45
cheaper if you’re paying somebody to do
64:47
it because it takes a lot of time to get
64:51
that stuff going to put it on a late
64:52
smooth it up like i like to do and do it
64:55
so Jerry dealer says he used a wire
64:58
brush on his Jason Malone said he is his
65:01
wife loop on his i’m pretty sure he’s
65:05
full of it on that but you never know
65:07
about jason he just might be using it at
65:11
the gate all the other things also i
65:14
just thought about you know drift master
65:17
rod holders as one of our sponsors and
65:21
the other thing you know even though i
65:23
use monsters i do have drift master on
65:26
board to vote but I taking it spin them
65:30
things out of those holders and clean
65:33
those threads up because they do get
65:35
corroded up over a season you know and
65:40
and I’ll take a wire brush and I’ll
65:42
clean those off and you know take it if
65:45
you got the wing nuts or if you got just
65:48
regular nuts mind it’s got stainless
65:50
steel nuts on it
65:52
i I just go and clean clean those off
65:55
spin them off and you know
65:57
I’m a mechanic and and I’ve got all the
66:00
dyes and stuff that i need to if I have
66:03
to clean them up but if you do you can
66:05
take a wire brush to more wire wheel to
66:08
that all clean them right up and if for
66:11
some reason they don’t just get you tap
66:13
to run down the whole little ways or Die
66:15
to run with the top of the threads on
66:16
the outside clean that stuff up
66:18
something that I like to do to stuff
66:21
like that is put anti-seize on the
66:23
threads now that stuff will get on
66:25
everything and attach itself to
66:28
everything but if you put it on there
66:30
and then just take a cloth and hold it
66:33
real tight and unscrew the inside the
66:35
closed most of it’s gone now stop that
66:37
corrosion from coming up
66:38
yeah and the other thing is if you use
66:40
it now we use i have access to food
66:44
grade and seized and in food grade and
66:49
receive your supposed to be able to eat
66:50
it and stuff like that i don’t think i
66:53
don’t want to do it but it doesn’t it
66:56
doesn’t creep all over you like the
66:58
other stuff does well that’d be good
67:01
then yeah jason jason says that he
67:05
sprays threads with corrosion x which
67:08
much be a chemical that he’s aware of
67:10
that i’m not which I you know he kind of
67:12
deals in that stuff I think we job so
67:15
that’s probably a good product and Jerry
67:19
also said he use a wire brush on his
67:20
which that’s fine but it doesn’t matter
67:22
what brand it is especially when you’re
67:24
putting stainless or steel rod holders
67:27into an aluminum base you’re gonna get
67:29 some of that if water gets into the
67:31 waters gonna get it up you’re out about
67:32 you
67:33 yeah i mean Brandon water all around
67:36 yesterday arraigned today and it always
67:38 migrates into those strands and works
67:41 its way down through there and all this
67:43 stuff that we’ve talked about tonight
67:45 you can do it on a saturday morning or
67:46 society afternoon you know when when you
67:49 watching of a football game and or
67:53 whatever it is I me stock car race /
67:55 baseballs over some pretty much done the
67:57 TV there’s never an catfish shows on it
68:00 you know it’s just it’s just met but
68:03 there’s there’s a lot of things you can
68:05 do to prepare yourself for a great year
68:07 for next year I’ll be we’re going to
68:08 have a good year it’s all let’s go
68:10 figure is always get you what you got
68:13 tonight for docs tip docs tip tonight
68:16 backup your waypoints on your electronic
68:20 munits SD card that’s all it takes about
68:25 a two gig when you come off the water
68:28 just before you check your unit down
68:30 just you know hummingbird garmin yeah
68:36 what’s the other huh
68:38 Lorraine get the boy can’t believe I
68:42 just did that
68:43 oh well hard to get old I guess ya doing
68:46 it but back him up
68:49 you know you don’t ever know that you
68:51 know one of units you may have to do a
68:54 hard reset when you do a hard reset you
68:57 know it takes everything off but if you
69:00 that if you’re faithful it doing this
69:02 back up here on your way points
69:06 you won’t lose anything it’ll come back
69:08 up that’s dr. tip for the night
69:10 that’s a great tip and a lot of people
69:12 forget to do that or don’t know that you
69:14 can do it but it’s something that if
69:16 you’re worried about saving your
69:17 waypoints that’s a great way to get it
69:19 done in that way you have them for next
69:22 year
69:23 yeah we had a few minutes so that’s all
69:25 I got
69:26 ok Jarius Dillard is sent me the
69:30 schedule for this Texas tournament trail
69:33 for next year and the first three or
69:35 january fourteenth februari fourth and
69:39 fifth weary 25th he said he’s gonna
69:41 announce the full schedule this weekend
69:43 at their championship event I know he
69:46 posted some flyer something up on the
69:49 catfish with the page I’ve been busy
69:50 getting the well as you know I’ve been
69:53 busy get the show going for the last
69:55 quite some time tonight and and it will
69:58 go on after the show’s over and over
70:00 with us don’t we don’t do the show and
70:02 that’s it it takes several hours in
70:04 between times before and after to get
70:06 everything done so we’ll be getting all
70:08 that then I would like to ask everybody
70:12 to teach Chuck and his family in there
70:14 in your thoughts and prayers of a it
70:18 bothers old Chuck really bad when he’s
70:19 not on a show with us and we missing

70:34 tribute something that everybody doing
70:38 that for for bank it’s just you know
