00:08
it’s really nice to see this many people
00:10
in one room supporting the sport of
00:13
catfishing I want to thank Jeff Jones
00:15
and Steve Douglas and anyone else that’s
00:18
been a part of this catfish conference
00:21
I’m kind of new to catfishing actually
00:24
I’ve only been catfishing for about 10
00:26
years I come from a softball background
00:30
got hurt couldn’t hit the ball 450 feet
00:33
anymore and decided I’d find something
00:36
else to do
00:36
I tried golf it didn’t work too well so
00:41
I came over to catfishing I’m pretty
00:43
much a self-taught cat fisherman I got
00:47
some tips in the very beginning from a
00:49
couple local guys and the USCA was a big
00:52
help to me back seven eight years ago
00:55
but like Steve said I’m the tournament
00:58
director of Monsters on the Ohio which
01:00
to this date as far as I know is the
01:03
largest cat fishing tournament in the
01:05
United States on the Ohio River
01:07
held in Owensboro Kentucky I’m gonna
01:11
pass around a few Flyers you know I
01:13
don’t know if I got enough for everybody
01:14
but if you want to see some of the
01:16
information and then I might actually go
01:18
over some of this information on here to
01:20
let you guys know about monsters on
01:23
there loud he just passed those around
01:30
we’ll get those handed out and then
01:32
we’ll talk about some of the stuff that
01:35
monsters on the Ohio is all about last
01:41
year we had a hundred and eighty boats
01:44
from 22 states down in Owensboro
01:48
Kentucky
01:49
we had 325 anglers men women children
01:54
and we gave out over fifty five thousand
01:58
dollars in cash and prizes this was the
02:03
sixth year for monsters on the Ohio the
02:06
very first year we had twenty four boats
02:08
and about seven or eight sponsors and a
02:12
lot of those sponsors are still with me
02:14
today
02:15
one thing about monsters on the Ohio
02:17
we’re not occur
02:18
we’re not a cash grab I never started
02:21
monsters on the Ohio to make money
02:24
I started monsters on Ohio to help grow
02:27
the sport of catfishing I knew that
02:31
there were no regulations in my state on
02:33
catfish I knew there were no big cat
02:37
fishing tournaments in my state for
02:38
catfish and I knew my hometown was doing
02:42
five hundred million dollars worth of
02:44
work on its riverfront for you guys that
02:48
have been to Owensboro Kentucky and I
02:50
see several of you here that have I
02:52
think you’ll agree with me that we have
02:54
one of the best boat ramps you’ll ever
02:57
go to I mean we got 14 acres of nothing
03:01
but beautiful park and beautiful boat
03:03
ramp so that that is that is a big
03:06
advantage if you’ve ever been to
03:08
Owensboro you’ll see the new hotels and
03:10
the convention centers and the
03:12
restaurants and and all this going up
03:14
right on the river so if the river is a
03:18
big part of Kentucky’s legacy then I
03:21
thought well let’s take advantage of it
03:23
so as monsters on the Ohio has grown so
03:27
has downtown Owensboro and it you know
03:31
one thing I really like to express you
03:34
know there’s some guys are here
03:35
interested in how do you start a big
03:37
tournament where do you even start at I
03:38
mean what do you do my first suggestion
03:43
would be if you if you’re really
03:44
interested in starting a big tournament
03:46
you need to start with your city and you
03:50
need to start with your Tourism
03:51
Commission now with that said I know a a
03:55
lot of people think well you get a lot
03:57
of money from the city of Owensboro no I
03:59
don’t the city of Owensboro basically
04:02
lets me use the park the city of
04:05
Owensboro comes down and sets the park
04:07
up the city of Owensboro gives us the
04:09
Big Show mobile to have the weigh in on
04:11
the city of Owensboro gives us the
04:13
electricity to run everything the city
04:16
of Owensboro gave us the sport Center
04:18
last year for the captain’s meeting we
04:21
don’t ask for a dime from the city of
04:23
Owensboro they do enough if you come
04:26
down there a couple days for the
04:28
tournament and you see these tractors
04:29
and the
04:30
bleachers being moved in this show
04:33
mobile being moved in that’s what the
04:35
city of Owensboro is doing and that is
04:39
very valuable I wouldn’t want to know
04:42
how many man-hours they put into setting
04:44
up that setting up that English Park for
04:47
monsters on the Ohio and when you look
04:50
at my sponsors I mean it it’s pretty
04:53
much a grassroot tournament really most
04:56
of my sponsors are local sponsors now
04:59
don’t get me wrong I have big national
05:01
sponsors I have see art boats I’m the
05:05
only tournament that I know of besides
05:07
the art votes that they actually give a
05:09
boat away at the tournament now you
05:12
don’t have to win the tournament to win
05:14
that boat you don’t even have to catch a
05:16
fish to win that boat you come to the
05:19
tournament you pay your entry fee you’re
05:23
entered in that boat so somebody at the
05:25
end of the day no matter what you’ve
05:27
done is going to win a boat Academy
05:30
Sports is a big sponsor of mine they
05:32
come in they set up their booths they
05:35
donate gift cards to give away
05:37
I mean it’s monsters is a pretty big
05:41
shindig I mean we give away everything
05:43
everything that comes into that
05:45
tournament goes right back out to the
05:46
fishermen I’ll tell you that right now I
05:48
mean you know you just look at the meal
05:51
last year that was a four thousand
05:53
dollar meal you know that my sponsors
05:56
paid for that the fishermen didn’t have
05:57
to pay for it you know and that’s a big
05:59
part of it so like I said if you want to
06:02
start a big tournament start inside your
06:04
city it helps to be local to have
06:07
friends that own businesses I mean I
06:10
have 12 friends that own businesses from
06:13
tire shops to grocery stores though so
06:16
whatever that that sponsor monsters on
06:19
the Ohio and it’s not because it’s a cat
06:21
fishing tournament it’s because they
06:23
believe in our community and they
06:25
support anything that’s good for our
06:27
community Owensboro Kentucky is the
06:29
number one sports town in the state of
06:31
Kentucky there’s a reason for that the
06:33
community supports what we do
06:36
Owensboro has just recently brought in a
06:39
fresh a professional hockey team
06:42
a basketball team a football team in the
06:46
semi-pro levels I mean they they really
06:49
support what we do so you need to go
06:52
back home and if you live in Kentucky I
06:55
mean I really suggest you do this
06:57
because we need all the support in
06:59
Kentucky we can get one thing people
07:03
don’t realize is let’s let’s just talk
07:06
for a second there’s a lot of people in
07:07
here that realize that from Carrollton
07:09
damn to Cairo Illinois commercial
07:13
fishermen are allowed for fish over 40
07:15
inches a day but from Carrollton damn to
07:20
West Virginia it’s one over thirty-five
07:22
and some people have have mocked what
07:27
has happened in Kentucky and said that
07:30
we didn’t do all that we could in
07:33
Kentucky and those are people that just
07:35
don’t realize what’s really going on out
07:37
there this catfish thing is a money grab
07:41
absolutely I’ve been to all the meetings
07:45
it’s about money these commercial guys
07:48
down in Western Kentucky around Berkeley
07:51
Lake around Kentucky lake are making
07:54
millions of dollars a year selling our
07:57
catfish so what happens is when you go
08:01
to a state representative or you go to a
08:03
senator and you say look I want to
08:07
protect the catfish in the state of
08:08
Kentucky well I promise you this if that
08:12
senators only got one or two commercial
08:14
fishermen in his area he ain’t got a
08:16
problem with it but if he’s got 15 20
08:20
commercial guys that live in his
08:22
boundaries he’s got a problem with it so
08:24
when you get down to Western Kentucky
08:27
and you’re trying to talk a senator or a
08:30
state representative in to protecting
08:32
the catfish for what we love to do he’s
08:35
not going to listen to you much when
08:37
there’s a commercial guy coming up with
08:38
a million dollar w2 saying well this is
08:41
what I bring into the community so it’s
08:43
a it’s definitely a cash grab there’s no
08:46
doubt about it it is a absolute cash
08:49
grab recently Indiana passed laws one
08:53
over thirty-five statewide
08:55
the reason it happened there’s only 17
08:59
commercial fishermen in the state of
09:01
Indiana and according to fish and
09:05
wildlife in Indiana only two of those
09:07
guys target trophy catfish so it was not
09:11
a problem to tighten the winches on them
09:14
guys because they’re not losing money
09:15
they’re getting more riding real
09:17
fishermen in there on their waters with
09:19
the one over 35 that will compensate for
09:22
putting a claw on those Indiana
09:25
commercial guys Kentucky has 256
09:27
commercial fishermen that’s a lot of
09:30
money that’s a lot of money and when we
09:34
went to Frankfort to be real honest with
09:38
you there was not one rod and reel
09:41
fisherman west of Owensboro Kentucky
09:44
that’s from Owensboro to Cairo Illinois
09:47
that showed up in support of the rigs so
09:51
the hardest-hit waters we got sniffling
09:55
JT myers kentucky lake barkley lake not
10:00
one rod and reel guy from the whole
10:01
state showed up to defend the catfish so
10:05
when people say well you guys really
10:07
didn’t get that much done I think there
10:10
was probably seven of us they showed up
10:13
did we say we’re the only seven that
10:16
needs to show up no we never did we
10:19
begged for people to come we put it on
10:21
Facebook we put it on websites it was
10:24
all over the place seven guys in the
10:26
whole state showed up seven the biggest
10:30
day in the history of commercial fishing
10:33
on the Ohio River in Kentucky waters
10:36
seven people showed up that’s not good
10:40
but I’ll tell you what the seven guys
10:42
that did show up stood up put up a fight
10:45
and we got the one over 35 from West
10:49
Virginia to Canton which which is
10:52
awesome one over 35 is awesome but then
10:56
when you got the Senators in the
10:59
representatives saying there’s no way
11:00
we’re gonna support that from not
11:03
Owensboro because I had both my both my
11:06
senators and all four of my legislators
11:09
in Davis County were for what we were
11:12
trying to do it only makes sense we’re
11:14
bringing in hundreds of thousands of
11:16
dollars for a cat fishing tournament and
11:18
my tournaments not the only tournament
11:20
held in Owensboro there’s other guys
11:22
that have tournaments there there’s
11:23
other tournaments that want to come
11:25
there but like I said it’s only for four
11:29
seven or eight guys I think we got a lot
11:32
done now what do we need to do Kentucky
11:34
Fish and Wildlife’s here today J her
11:37
ella is here today he’s the head
11:39
biologist for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife
11:42
I’ve met J several times they come to my
11:44
tournament every year they measure fish
11:46
they wave fish they do it right we need
11:50
to let them know that hey this for over
11:52
40 which is in total out of uniform Ohio
11:57
Indiana Illinois now it’s one over 35
12:00
but Kentucky’s got this for over 40 from
12:05
countin down it I wouldn’t want to be a
12:08
conservation officer officer yeah I mean
12:10
you gotta go you got no words a guy come
12:12
from where’s he being all this it just
12:14
makes it tough ik it’s hard enough to
12:16
regulate what’s going on out there right
12:18
now without a uniform pattern all the
12:21
way up and down the river and Kentucky
12:23
didn’t pass any regulations on Berkeley
12:26
and Kentucky lakes why is that like I
12:31
said it’s a it’s a cash grab not one
12:33
person from down that way came up to
12:36
help fight for the rigs and you say well
12:39
can you tell a difference yes I can tell
12:41
the difference I fished the Cumberland
12:43
River I fished the Tennessee River and
12:45
I’ll tell you right now if I’m going to
12:48
fish either one of them I’m going south
12:49
I’m going into Tennessee I’m going into
12:53
Alabama and there’s a couple couple of
12:55
different reasons for that
12:57
first of all Tennessee and Alabama have
13:00
regulations longer than Kentucky has the
13:02
bait down in the Cumberland and the
13:05
Tennessee River once you get into
13:07
Tennessee and Alabama is amazing I mean
13:11
you’ll see schools are shared a half
13:13
mile long 20 foot deep stuff you can’t
13:16
find here on the Ohio River anymore
13:19
stuff you can’t find in Berkeley or
13:21
Kentucky Lake anymore
13:22
and there’s no doubt that there’s more
13:25
big fish down in Tennessee and Alabama
13:27
than there is in Kentucky now has it
13:29
always been that way I don’t know
13:32
I’m kind of new I’ve only been around
13:34
for 10 years but I can tell you for sure
13:38
that the fishing is much better down
13:41
that way and I love Kentucky and I’ve
13:42
done all I can to help build the sport
13:45
of catfishing in Kentucky but if you
13:47
want me to be honest I’m going to
13:49
Tennessee or I’m going to Alabama if I
13:53
got my if I got my choice and another
13:56
another part of that is the Asian carp
13:59
you know I don’t know how many you guys
14:01
realize how big a deal the Asian carp is
14:06
in the ohio river that’s a big deal
14:09
because i’m telling you right now where
14:11
i used to be able to catch shad and skip
14:13
jack all I’m seeing is hundreds of
14:15
thousands a day of Asian carp and Asian
14:19
carp eat the same thing that the shad do
14:22
so if the Asian carp are eating up all
14:24
the shad food and all the shad in here
14:27
and that kind of messes up the whole
14:29
system so we definitely I mean I know
14:32
there’s a lot of people that don’t
14:34
support commercial fishing I support
14:37
different stances of it there’s only
14:40
there’s only one person that’s going to
14:43
be able to get out there and get those
14:47
and that’s these guys with these big
14:49
nets and and that’s what they need to be
14:52
doing they need to raise the market
14:54
price on the Asian carp so these
14:56
commercial guys can lay off the catfish
14:58
and they can start going after the carp
15:02
and making money doing it I mean they’re
15:04
gonna do it I mean they’re in it for the
15:06
money that’s they’re not out there doing
15:08
what they do to destroy what we do
15:10
they’re out there trying to make money
15:13
and I do not in no way support a pay
15:17
lake I do not in no way support a
15:20
commercial fisherman that trophy hunts
15:22
it’s just a it’s just a no no all right
15:26
so like I said I mean if you guys here
15:28
in the building here watching this want
15:30
to help us out here in the state of
15:32
Kentucky definitely stop by and talk to
15:36
Jay
15:36
Fish and Wildlife if you live in the
15:39
state of Kentucky and you feel like the
15:40
for over 40 is it right from kennel ting
15:42
then down call your state representative
15:46
I mean that’s what we did we started we
15:48
kind of went around Kentucky official
15:50
wildlife from the very beginning because
15:53
what they were telling us is not what we
15:55
were seeing they were telling us that
15:58
you know there wasn’t a problem with the
15:59
trophic gas can you pick it up a little
16:01
bit but I’m in contact with a lot of a
16:03
lot of fishermen all the way up and down
16:15
with really different
16:22
you want to go
16:25
we gotta plan on going back to two years
16:31
it’s be than here thankfully in Kentucky
16:34
there’s field study
16:38
mediated
16:39
we’ve already had great statewide I
16:42
think it should be one over 35
16:47
dr. coke
16:51
get a girl and it will take more than
16:55
trying to be
16:56
it’s really techno stuff like this here
16:58
today and this is Kentucky this is drawn
17:01
money in from from all over the country
17:04
where I dated to the same Kentucky and
17:06
hope that he’d recognize that and
17:08
actually one decision
17:15
that would do they know
17:20
now let’s let’s talk about money I don’t
17:23
know how many guys who a care how thesis
17:26
I’ve been three well and you know
17:29
there’s a lot of guys that feels this
17:32
way or that
17:35
that could work for you that he do
17:40
I am blessed month whoa
17:44
I am blessed enough to be prompt a few
17:48
great companies state gun was the Boston
17:51
rod holders have been with me since I
17:53
got into this Fort Greene scene were
17:57
real tight we pasted together we found
18:00
side deal with all things over a lot I’m
18:04
close that book ecstasy garage there a
18:06
new rock company is forth which is good
18:08
I’m not gonna say one robbed better than
18:11
the other right because that’s not
18:13
necessarily true
18:14
what what what works for you is what
18:16
fits for you that’s what you should use
18:18
cliff for me gets the Peter kind of this
18:21
move and they gave you a phone call and
18:24
offer these I tried it out and I really
18:28
enjoyed the part up and we’ve got a
18:31
pretty good relationship going now I
18:34
don’t know how many no notice
18:36
boys kid from North Carolina has been
18:38
100 pounders up on the beach that people
18:41
are easy quranic I will play this
18:45
earlier on I would say it’s a good
18:48
opener
18:52
that’s a pretty stout leader in every
18:54
Rock I’m also a pro would never say
18:58
anchors Whitehall is a good friend of
19:00
mine chameleons are much more Hollow
19:05
he’s from down which piece of Italy
19:07
actually up at Whitehall on his personal
19:09
days of work eh
19:12
I’m also most avid basketball which is a
19:15
local retail store in my hometown
19:21
you know yes we will having to get these
19:24
parts of here playing I really don’t
19:26
know I mean that’s one mcLeese
19:29
but not a whole lot more of a cat person
19:34
I like to go out do people that’s never
19:37
fished before that live in my hometown
19:39
and let them feel the Thunder and
19:44
amazing yes the growth in my whole thing
19:48
I mean I don’t know what you guys are
19:50
seeing where you’re from but in my
19:52
hometown six years ago there was three
19:56
of us out there fishing regular me out a
20:00
window
20:01
it don’t fit me that’s all I ever seen
20:03
on the river you don’t know what’s real
20:07
now and they’re concerned it somewhere
20:11
close and just about every week and you
20:14
go out on a weekend in there 20 30 guys
20:16
out there peacefully and all this is
20:19
happening five years
20:23
maybe not what’s it I don’t know what
20:25
kind of growth
20:26
where you’re from but you know we’re
20:29
looking at five six hundred percent
20:31
growth in five years old the sport is
20:33
catching on and I think it has a lot to
20:37
do with these guys in our wilderness
20:39
share information I’m not so much like
20:43
that high up I will share some stuff
20:47
I’ll show beautiful the various some
20:50
stuff I have people like to my best and
20:53
something I don’t like that too much but
20:54
ice cream survives on that water
20:58
Austrian thousands of dollars gas and
21:01
oil it ain’t cheap maybe get out there
21:11
and earned it just Bolivia because you
21:15
can read all the articles you want you
21:17
can watch all the price quick videos you
21:19
want nothing in this world will replace
21:24
you beat all night long
21:25
and you start with a do what each
21:29
mission and there’s no doubt about it
21:33
you spend enough time on water usually
21:36
starts giving out some things
21:38
you’re gonna know that if you’re fishing
21:41
you know how they were knocking this
21:43
through Mississippi Missouri without a
21:45
fishing much but I know this for a fact
21:47
that he’s a common even in the Tennessee
21:50
in the Ohio they bring the current get
21:54
up you don’t want the in the middle of
21:56
that channel in the deepest quality that
21:58
water trying to get space in that form
22:01
on our turn anymore its head you’re not
22:04
gonna learn it from the video you never
22:06
read a book you’re gonna have to get out
22:08
there one time it drop that right down
22:10
and when it takes you about 7:00 p.m.
22:13
the whole bothers you don’t figure out
22:15
I’m in the wrong spot what I met what
22:18
I’m glad you a lot you’re that Wilkins
22:20
lack water now about saying I don’t
22:22
please pack things went but I vote for
22:25
inside feeling this little contours a
22:29
break
22:30
if you fish for Tennessee or the common
22:32
river is what snow Lotus is the closer
22:36
you get to the fact of the day on the
22:37
sword eternity
22:38
you know distances if you’re on wheeler
22:42
like it and you’re fishing
22:45
the powder plane you know now they’re
22:50
exclusive 120,000 case yesterday it’s
22:54
too mild our third thing that you can go
22:56
on all down the lake and you can go
22:59
anywhere in the paper really is you know
23:02
that clients going to be one month I
23:05
think it’s all about it now that
23:07
expressly the wintertime summertime it’s
23:10
three times a little bit different but
23:12
in the wintertime I think it’s all about
23:14
finding that little bit slower just a
23:17
little bit of a break and finding that
23:19
bait to catch those fish I mean it works
23:22
for me
23:24
whatever you want to call it cat
23:26
efficient I hate them
23:28
the water’s 60 degrees or less so from
23:31
about December to March
23:34
I’m usually anchored up and I’m fishing
23:36
the same stuff I please when I’m
23:39
drifting and when I talk about drifting
23:42
I’m not a walnut Ripley
23:44
I don’t drift with two or three miles
23:46
and wait for fish I was structured every
23:50
trick I believe and get me $1,500 above
23:55
these structures drifting down to it
23:57
drifting over top of it
23:59
drifting back to the hotel if you’ve
24:02
ever been over a tree or anything like
24:06
that drifting and you see these fish
24:08
come out of it and you’re and you keep
24:11
going right hotdogeteria fight today the
24:17
reason those fees being – if you just
24:19
rip off the lip you lift those fish
24:22
they’re not going to come far out that
24:23
stressful cover or whatever you want to
24:26
call them what I found what works for me
24:28
in all three ten hundred dollar cut off
24:32
thrown through net structures of
24:33
government do not see creature out there
24:36
I will go
24:38
and if they don’t hit them all the time
24:42
about trolling motor around and I will
24:43
pull myself back up towards that
24:45
structure so when I’m going back that
24:49
poor dextrose I thought wouldn’t gonna
24:53
bite will bite well if they don’t bite
24:55
them what I do I go to that structure
24:57
and I’ll spot lock on that structure
24:59
that’s one good thing about today’s
25:02
technology is the good old spot lock
25:04
button there’s nothing like it in the
25:06
world and I’ll get on that structure and
25:10
I’ll drop rods down one foot off bottom
25:13
two foot off bottom three foot you can
25:15
fish the heck out of some structure spot
25:17
lock right on top of it because my
25:19
theory is if those fish are coming out
25:21
of that structure they’re in there to
25:23
ambush food they’re wanting to eat they
25:26
come out of that structure to eat if you
25:29
kept drifting you left them but if you
25:30
came back on them and you’re set on them
25:33
I’ll say three out of five spots you’re
25:36
gonna catch a fish off that if you see
25:38
fish coming out of that structure and
25:40
you drift past it and you come back up
25:43
on it three out of five times you’re
25:46
gonna catch fish now the thing with that
25:48
is you can’t do that in the Mississippi
25:50
River you can’t do that on the Missouri
25:53
River that you know your trolling motor
25:55
ain’t got enough pop to pull up against
25:57
that seven mile an hour current you know
25:59
so you know that’s why that’s good one
26:02
good thing about being here today is
26:04
you’re gonna get to hear from some guys
26:06
that do fish the Mississippi River they
26:08
do fish the Missouri River and they’re
26:11
gonna be able to tell you if you’re from
26:12
that area what works for them but like I
26:16
said what works for me is finding that
26:19
structure I like to go up everybody
26:21
knows five miles up five miles down I am
26:23
a true believer in that I
26:25
no matter where I’m going it there’s
26:29
there’s there’s a website out there in
26:30
avionics and you can download the
26:33
Navionics app into your computer and you
26:36
can set it home and you can pretty much
26:38
as far as the lakes go you can see every
26:41
deep spot in that Lake the rivers aren’t
26:43
mapped out as well but the lakes are and
26:45
and I’ll spend a half a day in front
26:50
that Navionics map
26:51
looking at where I’m gonna fish and then
26:53
I’m gonna find a boat ramp five miles up
26:55
or five miles down from it and normally
26:58
that works because what I’m gonna look
27:01
for is I’m gonna look for ten to twenty
27:03
pieces of structure within five miles of
27:06
each other you know right there in one
27:08
area outside bends is is a real good
27:10
place for that you know the backside of
27:13
dams where they got rock piles and stuff
27:15
like that
27:15
blowed up dams you know I fish a lot of
27:18
bloat up dams on the Ohio River
27:19
but like I said I mainly stick to
27:21
structure and I mainly stick to
27:24
anchoring in the wintertime so I think
27:29
my time is about done here
27:31
I would like to see if anybody’s got any
27:33
questions about anything about monsters
27:36
on our well a couple of rule changes
27:37
that we did make and monsters on the
27:40
Ohio this year I want to go over real
27:41
quick
27:42
we did drop these the senior age from 65
27:45
to 60 so if you got someone sixty years
27:48
or older that wants to fish with you we
27:50
will allow a third person in a boat we
27:54
did put a cap on the tournament to the
27:58
first two hundred votes and people say
28:00
well why’d you do that we’ll try to run
28:02
a two hundred boat permit one time in
28:04
one day and you’ll figure out real quick
28:06
it’s a it’s pretty tough but we do get
28:10
it done and from everything I’ve heard I
28:13
mean we’re so blessed by the anglers
28:15
that come to our tournament they speak
28:17
so highly anybody that’s been there
28:18
speaks so highly of it I work for a
28:21
Catholic Church I have you know four or
28:24
five people that have master’s degrees
28:26
that work with me at the church they’re
28:28
really smart people plus they’re
28:30
Christians so it really helps to have
28:33
people like that
28:34
help you do what you do it keeps
28:37
everything we’re so organized you know
28:40
we had we you know a lot of people say
28:41
well a captain’s meeting that’s that
28:44
don’t make no sense
28:45
well yes it does make sense if you’re
28:47
trying to park and pull two hundred
28:48
boats on the river in two and a half
28:50
hours you’ve got to have some
28:52
organization that’s one thing that that
28:55
I understand they’re going to try to do
28:56
later on this afternoon is get some
28:58
organization to the tournament and
29:00
turbot trails out there you got to have
29:03
some kind of organ
29:04
I mean you look at any sport out there
29:06
there there’s there’s organization and
29:09
everything but like I said I just want
29:12
see if anybody’s got any questions I can
29:14
answer for you and so anybody got a
29:18
questions oh yeah another thing what
29:25
we’ve done is we opened up two boat
29:27
ramps that normally wouldn’t open for
29:30
monsters on Ohio but we’re going to call
29:34
that control trailering is what we’re
29:36
gonna call that and I do want to go over
29:37
that real quick what we’re gonna do is
29:40
if you’ve ever been to monsters on the
29:41
Ohio before you know it’s 45 minutes to
29:44
one lock and it’s 25 minutes the other
29:48
one and then you got a lock through so
29:51
you’re losing a lot of fishing time plus
29:53
it’s costing you a lot of gas to run 78
29:55
miles up or down the river so what we
29:57
did is we opened up Rocky Point which is
30:00
the first boat ramp on the upriver side
30:04
of kennels and Dam and we opened up
30:06
angel mounds which is the first boat
30:08
ramp down river from Newburgh you’ll
30:11
still come to Owensboro for the
30:12
captain’s meeting you’ll still get your
30:14
live wheel check
30:15
Anton throw that morning you’ll get in a
30:18
line behind one of my workers he’ll take
30:21
you to that boat ramp
30:23
he’ll check you in at that boat ramp
30:25
once you’ve checked into that boat ramp
30:28
no one will leave that boat ramp before
30:30
6:30 now what we’re gonna do is we’re
30:34
gonna allow you if you want to for the
30:36
safety of the fish once the term it’s
30:40
over or once you decide to come in if
30:42
you want to drop your partner off and
30:44
let them drive your vehicle back to
30:46
Owensboro and drive your boat back and
30:49
the other guy drive the boat back to
30:50
Owensboro we’re gonna allow you to do
30:53
that we have a polygrapher we’re gonna
30:56
know if you’re cheating so I think
30:59
that’s gonna spread when you get a hunt
31:01
my pool is not the longest pool in the
31:03
ohio river my pool doesn’t have the most
31:06
contours and
31:08
holes in it you get a hundred and eighty
31:11
two hundred boats in one pool all pre
31:13
fishing together all stuck together come
31:15
tournament time the poor fish don’t have
31:17
much of a chance
31:18
they’ve been sore lipped to death so
31:21
that kind of opens the tournament up
31:22
spreads it out these are all waters that
31:25
were already accessible to the
31:26
tournament so it’s still the same waters
31:29
it’s just gonna let you get to your end
31:31
of the river a little bit faster and for
31:33
these guys that got smaller boats that
31:35
don’t have the 250 horse motors they’re
31:38
gonna be able to make a run from Rocky
31:41
Point to close rapport because it’s only
31:42
gonna be ten miles instead of 70 miles
31:45
and that kind of to me levels the
31:47
playing field out so like I said I just
31:49
want to thank all y’all for being here
31:51
and thanks Steve and man this this is an
31:54
awesome spectacle y’all y’all have a
31:56
great day
32:01
you
